Young people participate in Cardiff's first Find Your Voice programme

August 3, 2018

Sixteen young people from Cardiff completed the Find Your Voice programme which was held at Wales Millennium Centre from Monday 23rd to Thursday 26th July.

The group, aged 16 to 21, took part in a number of workshops over the four days including 'Leadership Styles' and 'Influence, Power and Networks'. They also spent a day aboard the Challenge Wales boat sailing the English Channel with a focus on teamwork and overcoming challenges.

It was then time for them to put their new-found skills and teamwork into practice. Not only did the group create a fantastic podcast with Radio Platform on a local issue that they care about, but they practiced public speaking and community engagement at an 'Our Voice - Community Question Time' event in front of family and friends.

On August 2nd, the group took part in a Question and Answer session with two local Councillors to address the issues that their campaigns had been about: cycle safety, pollution, gangs, and mental health. To see young people share their voice, opinions and potential solutions was incredible, and each was awarded a certificate for their participation in the programme.

This is the first time that Find Your Voice has been delivered in Cardiff and it was really pleasing to not only fill all of the places but also to see the growth in the young people in such a short space of time. We also want to say a huge thank you to Wales Millennium Centre and Cardiff and Vale College for hosting us for the sessions.

We are looking forward to the next programme already!
