UpRising was launched in Manchester in 2012 and has been a huge success, engaging over 500 young people in our inspiring Programmes. Recently we were nominated for the Spirit of Manchester and Northwest Charity Awards, demonstrating the incredible impact our work is having on the community.

In Manchester, we work with a wide range of global, national and local organisations who deliver sessions on our Programmes, host visits or mentor our young participants. These include:

Our Manchester Programme participants have gone onto achieve big things from getting jobs in world-renowned companies, moving onto education, starting businesses or joining trustee boards. For example:

  • Employed by DEFRA

  • A group started a women’s rights charity

  • Got a job at the BBC and promoted in just 9 months

  • UpRiser with disability a qualified gym instructor

  • Got a job at AstraZeneca

  • One gained a scholarship for Goldsmiths University

  • A Labour Councillor in Fallowfield by-election

  • Represented Manchester at Manchester International Festival

  • Ambassador for Manchester United Disabled Supporters Association

Social Action 

Whilst on the Programmes our UpRisers have developed and delivered a massive range of Social Action projects direct in their communities. Recent themes have included: increasing the number of BME blood donors, helping young people find their way in politics, combating negative perceptions of refugees, engaging women to create political change, helping the homeless, reducing food waste and tackling mental health.
