UpRiser Rock The Boat!

UpRiser Rock The Boat!

The UpRising London cohort (2019-2020) are thrilled to announce the success of our fundraiser! The programme itself is expensive to run, so we were tasked with fundraising on the side to support the costs – the goal was £500. After a bit of thought, the fundraising team decided (ambitiously) to put on a charity gig, as one of our members is a musician and has a lot of musician friends. That left finding a place to host it. Luckily, we stumbled across Tamesis Dock, a bar and live music venue which is moored on the Albert Embankment and allowed free hire for charities.

The night itself was a brilliant success. We had performances from Lonnie StoreyQueen Colobus, and Jelly Cleaver, all of whom were fantastic. Jelly even performed a song about the fossil fuel industry, which felt very fitting as we were raising money for the Environmental Leadership Programme.

Through the organising team’s hard work (particularly Gabby), we were also able to get several environmentally-friendly brands to donate free prizes for our raffle. These included a canoe experience for two from Moo Canoes, a free Gousto box, a pack of pasta straws from Stroodles, a meal for two at Mooshies, and a t-shirt from XECO Clothing. The raffle was read in fabulous fashion by our fellow UpRiser, Charlie.

All in all, we raised £1038 for UpRising, which none of us can still believe. We just wanted to extend our thanks to all the bands and brands who helped us make this event the roaring success it was.
