Senior Programmes Development Officer

What is your motivation for working at UpRising?

I believe that diversity and equality have to be at the heart of any successful society, and this belief has been a driver in a lot of my career and life choices. I have volunteered and worked for a number of charities and educational organisations, always with the intention of doing my part towards social justice. I do not believe that social justice is possible without representation and inclusivity in Leadership, which is why I am very much behind the mission of UpRising.

What were you doing before you worked at UpRising?

I worked for an International Education Organisation for 12 years, which brought students together from all over the world with a mission to 'unite, people, nations, and cultures for peace and a sustainable future' - values which very much reflected my own. I worked with incredibly committed volunteers in over 150 countries, who selected promising and diverse young people to attend international schools. I saw first hand the power in bringing people of different backgrounds and cultures together in a very purposeful and meaningful way, to promote peace and tolerance. I also completed an Education MSc in 2016.

What is one piece of advice you would give your 18 year old self?

To try not to dwell on things too much, and to always take a step back from situations that may feel overwhelming in order to see the big picture as much as possible. Also, go to as many Prince gigs as you can.
