UpRising Launched in Manchester & Salford
Continuing the expansion of UpRising across the country, the leadership programme has now launched in Manchester & Salford.
Held on Wednesday 3rd October 2012 at Manchester Town Hall, the launch event brought together senior leaders from across the cities to learn more about the programme and why it is so important.
The even was hosted by Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council and an UpRising Ambassador, who welcomed guests and spoke about how vital it was for young people from diverse communities to develop their leadership skills.
He was followed by Rushanara Ali, MP for Bethnal Green and Bow and Chair of UpRising Board of Trustees, and Geoff Mulgan Chief Executive of NESTA and UpRising Trustee. They both gave accounts of how the programme was developed and what it has managed to achieve since it launched in 2008.
Finally, members of our Emerging Leaders Network, Henrietta Brealey (Birmingham) and Deola Sulola (London), spoke to the guests about their experience of the programme and the impact it has had on them personally and professionally.
The event was a great way to launch the programme in Manchester & Salford, and UpRising is grateful to support of Councillor Luthfur Rahman for helping to bring the programme to the northwest and arrange the launch event.
