We’re happy to announce that we’re one of 86 youth organisations that have been awarded a share of £40 million from the Department of Culture Media and Sport’s ‘Youth Investment Fund’. The Fund, announced last September with investment from the Big Lottery, will benefit over 300,000 young people across the UK by providing them with new opportunities to get involved in their communities, gain employability skills and boost their personal development. Minister for Civil Society, Tracey Crouch, said of the Fund,

"This investment from the Government and National Lottery players will have a transformational effect on the lives of some of our most disadvantaged young people.”

Here at UpRising, the Youth Investment Fund is supporting us to deliver our ‘Find Your Voice’ Programme in Birmingham over the next three years. The Programme is an introduction to social action and leadership for young people aged 16-18 who want to make a positive change in the world, but don’t know how. As part of the project the young people create a video social action campaign on an issue they feel strongly about. They then screen their film to local leaders and, together, discuss their ideas to solve these issues.

Lucy Caldicott, UpRising’s Chief Executive, explains how this is going to make a real difference to our work,

“The Youth Investment Fund will enable UpRising to really embed our Find Your Voice programme in Birmingham. We believe that learning how to make a difference in your local community at a younger age means that you are more likely to continue to make a positive impact as you get older.
Find Your Power is doing just that and we can’t wait to see what our young people will get up to over the next three years."

The next Find Your Voice will run in Birmingham in February, find out more here and a big well done to all of the recipients of the Youth Investment Fund.
