Thanks to the British Council Uprising was invited to discuss the important role young people, as emerging leaders, have in making positive change in their communities.

Alveena Malik; Director of UpRising, said ‘Aung San Suu Kyi is the type of leader I want to encourage Uprisers to be. Here is a lady who has, under immense challenges ,displayed values of humility, dignity, integrity and postivity– values that Uprising hopes to instil in the next generation of emerging leaders we work with. Aung Sang Suu Kyi believes that real change can happen by empowering young people to constantly question why things are the way they are and to be global in their learning. At a time when the model of democracy is questioned the world over Aung Sang Suu Kyi’s simple definition is for me the most compelling  ‘A Democracy is one that values human rights’.
