Recruitment: Programme Manager (Birmingham)

Recruitment: Programme Manager (Birmingham)

May 8, 2018

UpRising are hiring a Birmingham Programme Manager with responsibility for our Find Your Voice and Find Your Power (Surviving to Thriving) programmes.

We are looking for a Programme Manager to work across two projects in Birmingham.

  • Find Your Voice: a programme for 16-18 year olds from Birmingham from hard-to-reach backgrounds which takes place during the school holidays.

  • Find Your Power (Surviving to Thriving): a project in partnership with the British Red Cross and the Refugee Council delivering short programmes to unaccompanied refugee and asylum seekers aged between 16-25.

Both programmes require an experienced programme manager who is confident designing and delivering practical sessions for diverse young people, as well as managing all elements of set-up and delivery. This role would particularly benefit from someone who has experience of working directly with unaccompanied refugee and asylum seeking young people, a group which requires significant additional support.  Alternatively, someone who has experience working with people with low levels of English and those from hard-to-reach and marginalised backgrounds such as young carers, care leavers and young people from low socio-economic backgrounds.  Applicants will need excellent communication skills and the ability to support group facilitation.

The successful applicant will need to undergo a DBS check to work with under 18s, and will need to be able to travel to, or be based in, Birmingham. For further information (including indepth job descriptions and competencies), simply download our job pack.

Please note, this role is offered on an initial 6 month contract though we anticipate 9 months (maternity cover).

Programme details:

Surviving to Thriving is a partnership between the British Red Cross, the Refugee Council and UpRising that aims to improve the lives of unaccompanied refugee and asylum seeking children and young people. As part of this project participants can learn about their rights and entitlements with the British Red Cross, take part in therapeutic counselling with the Refugee Council, and explore leadership and social action on UpRising’s Find Your Power Programme.  Find Your Power is a free nine week skills development programme for unaccompanied refugee and asylum seeking young people aged between 16 - 25 which runs in Birmingham and the East of England.  Each programme supports 15 young people to explore the issues that affect them and create a short film about these issues alongside a professional film maker.  Previous groups have explored Education, Destitution, Loneliness and Prejudice.

Find Your Voice is a Youth Innovation Fund project running until March 2020.  The programme runs during the school holidays and works with hard-to-reach 16-18 year olds from underrepresented and marginalised groups across Birmingham.  During the programme young people design and create a Social Action Campaign film on an issue that matters to them which is presented at a Community Question Time and graduation event.
