Congratulations! The London, Luton and Bedord Leadership Programmes 2016-2017 Graduated

August 9, 2017

Congratulations to Graduates from our Leadership Programmes in London, Bedford and Luton 2016/17!

On Monday 10th July, we were ever so proud to be at Standard Chartered Bank to recognise the wonderful achievements of our participants in the Leadership and Environmental Leadership programmes from London, Bedford and Luton. It was an evening filled with celebration of the work that had gone on over the past 9 months, with 22 social action campaigns started to spark change in our communities.

During the evening we heard from some of our 117 participants on the journeys that they had been on during the programmes, and how it had helped them to become the future leaders of tomorrow. We were also lucky to welcome our CEO Lucy Caldicott and Chair Rushanara Ali, who gave speeches sure to inspire our graduates in what lies ahead.

‘Taking part in the programme in Bedford has been wonderful. I am passionate about Bedford as a town and so the chance to meet key figures in the area has been engaging - particularly the opportunity to grill my local Mayor and MP! Developing a social action project challenging perceptions of refugees and asylum seekers and raising money for a local charity has also been a highlight of the last nine months. Through the programme I have also had the opportunity to speak on the radio encouraging people to register to vote, something I had not done before.’ – Grace Fordham, Bedford Leadership Programme

This was also an opportunity to thank all of our partners who supported us to deliver these programmes, particularly Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth for helping us to establish the Environmental Leadership Programme, as well as Climate KIC, National Trust, Ape, Redmond Community Centre, SIDS Youth Aims Hub Seychelles, NHS, Hackney Council, TFL, LSE, Alium Partners, Body Talk UK, ELAB, Makeversity, Islamic Relief, Muslim Climate Action Group, MHP, 10:10, LLDC, Buzzfeed News, Guardian. Plus Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) for their amazing assistance with the Leadership Programmes, which was also supported by The Opulux Lifestyle, Delete Blood Cancer UK, The One Campaign, MyLifeMySay UK, Hackney Pirates, Institute of Strategic Dialogue, London Council, UEL, The Young Foundation, IPSA, HMRC, Insight Coaching, Accenture, La Salle, Virgin Money, Mayer Brown, Undivided, NCVO, Almeida Theatre, Ubuntu London, Good Innovation, Lexis Nexis.

"It was a wonderful occasion to see how our UpRisers have progressed during the programmes, and to witness their ambitions to improve the communities around them and bring about real change in society" – Lucy Caldicott, CEO of UpRising

We would like to say a special thank you to Standard Chartered for hosting us and making the event possible, as well as for their continued support with the programme over the last 9 months.

It was a superb end to a wonderful year, and as we move into our 10th year at UpRising we look forward to many more nights to celebrate the achievements of all of our UpRisers. Congratulations to the class of 2016-17!
