Meeting the British American Project

December 14, 2011

I was really excited and honoured to be invited to represent UpRising at The British American Project Conference, particularly after reading the short biographies of all the BAP representatives. It was brilliant to be exposed to such inspirational people, who had achieved so much already and get the chance to network and gain invaluable advice from them.

The ‘Speed Mentoring’ task was at first instance a daunting prospect, however once into the swing of it, it was great! We got the opportunity to discuss ourselves, our aspirations, our Social Action Campaigns, and had some very natural and personal conversations. It was so beneficial to listen to their stories, and the journey they undertook to get to where they are now. However, the most significant thing I have taken from this is continuing relationships with the people I met. I have huge respect for the BAP members in that they were, and are, so willing to help us with our journeys after the conference, despite the busy lives they lead.

This event helped me grow and consider things in a slightly different way; the feedback also helped me understand some of my strengths and weaknesses. Bringing two organisations like this together is absolutely fantastic and an amazing experience for all involved!
