What is your motivation for working at UpRising?
I firmly believe that for us to experience real change in society and tackle the issues we currently face we need more diverse and representative leaders in our society. For me UpRising represents a real and tangible way to help these young leaders from diverse backgrounds to become those leaders of the future. I was really excited to read about the programmes offered and this motivated me to make a change back to working with young people.
What were you doing before you worked at UpRising?
Before working for UpRising, I have worked with young people delivering learning sessions in heritage and museum environments, most recently through an internship with the National Trust. I then took a break from the third sector working in a sales environment, most recently working in a customer focused role building stakeholder relationships. Having moved to Cardiff in the latter part of 2019, I was looking for a change and a challenge and UpRising looked like the perfect opportunity to re-engage with young people and return to my passion for facilitation and delivery in a learning and development environment.
What is one piece of advice you would give your 18 year old self?
I would advise my 18 year old self to continue to pursue her passions, to not give up and to enjoy every experience in the moment because you never know where it might lead and when you might need to reach for it again in the future.
