Teen 2015

Mission statement

Teen 2015 is a campaign which seeks to change how politics and the process of democracy are presented; from one that is archaic and difficult to penetrate, to one that is creative, open and accessible. In doing this, we will enfranchise and engage young people between the ages of 13 and 19, who otherwise would not be.

Aims

Many reports on young people, and their engagement with politics, have shown that they view it as uninteresting, alienating and hard to comprehend. Politicians are often perceived as ‘old people’, very much removed from the circumstances of the younger generation; Political discourse is difficult to understand, as it is comes with a vast amount of history and complex jargon; Political institutions are seen as pretentious and archaic.

However, politics across the world is changing.

The idea that young people do not care about politics is a misrepresentation of the true state of affairs. Many young people are passionate about factors that affect them, their families and friends, and people across the world. They are actively involved in projects which aim to bring about positive change, and speak out in a variety of ways – from simply signing a petition, to attending demonstrations.
