Attire to Aspire

Attire to Aspire

Attire to Aspire aims to target the 10% youth unemployment rate in Tower Hamlets which is second highest in London. The campaign recognises a major problem that people aged 16-25 who come from deprived backgrounds often lack the resources, skills and necessities required to obtain employment.

Anecdotal evidence revealed a high proportion of young people attend job interviews without adhering to standard formalities such as wearing a suit, shirt and tie. However some people do not own or cannot afford these items of clothing. The Social Action Group specifically chose to focus on addressing core training needs and providing business attire.

In order to obtain the required clothing the team successfully secured £300 grant from O2 Think Big to buy suits and have also secured a number of suits from an established London Barristers Chambers.

They aim to provide training, some of which they intend to deliver themselves, in September 2012 working closely during the summer to secure local stakeholder buy in and expertise from local job centres and colleges in East London.
