Yannick Yalipende

Yannick is 21 years old. He recently got accepted for a “semi-paid” internship at his local MP’s surgery(Stephen Timms MP): he will have the opportunity to shadow him when he is on site and take part in the administrative work of the surgery. Yannick is also studying by correspondence (Psychology course with ICS).

He volunteers once a week as a mentor for The Mayor of London’s mentoring programme. As mentors they are being trained by The Capital Men organization and attend a six hour training session every week until they complete the course.

Yannick has also had the opportunity to be a member of the Newham Volunteers. This has allowed him to visit new places and acquire skills and knowledge that he wouldn’t have otherwise had the chance to get.

The career path that he has chosen is psychology; he plans to study it next year at University of Royal Holloway (deferred entry) and to pursue a Master’s course in clinical psychology when he graduates.

Throughout his life he has been inspired by a great number of people. He has always admired “goal-models”, people who set goals, believe in them and manage to succeed in achieving them despite the challenges they might have encountered; he believes that they are just as, if not more important, than the role models of our society.
